Dr. Mattson has worked for more than 16 years as the state pediatric medical consultant in the North Carolina Division of Public Health. She is currently serving in the role as the interim NC Title V CYSHCN (Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs) Director. She has served in several key roles in many state and national committees and projects related to children and CYSHCN. She is active in the state chapters of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), American Public Health Association (APHA), and American Medical Association (AMA). She is currently serving as a Governing Councilor for the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Section within APHA. Dr. Mattson has maintained her clinical skills which has given her the opportunity to practice medicine for more than 20 years in a variety of pediatric health care settings and has always had a passion for partnering with CYSHCN and their families. Dr. Mattson completed an internship and residency in pediatrics at Emory School of Medicine. She also completed a Master of Science in Public Health at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health where she is currently an adjunct associate professor in the Department of MCH.

Dr. Hernandez is a pediatric allergist and immunologist whose research interests include asthma and the development of novel therapeutics for difficult-to-control asthma in children and teenagers, including effective interventions that can target environmentally induced inflammation to prevent disease in susceptible populations. Dr. Hernandez role includes Director, NC. Child Health Research Network, Associate Medical Director, NC. Children’s Allergy and asthma Center, Associate Director of Clinical Research, Children’s Research Institute, Faculty Director of Clinical Research Unit, Children’s Research Institute, Professor, Pediatric allergy, immunology and rheumatology.

Dr. Leslie received her BA in Psychology from the College of Holy Cross and medical degree from the University of North Carolina.  She currently serves as the Assistant Professor, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Wake Forest School of Medicine. In addition to her many years as staff psychiatrist in California and North Carolina, Dr. Leslie serves on a number of committees including;  Graduate Medical Education Committee, Clinical Competency Committee, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship, and Program Education Committee, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship. Dr. Leslie is a member of  American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, American Psychiatric Association, North Carolina Psychiatric Association, American Academy of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training. She also is the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program Director, Health Services Coordinator, RN for Crossnore School & Children’s Home, and Behavioral Health Provider (LCSW) with Collaborative Care Model at WFBH Downtown Health Plaza Pediatrics Clinic.

Dr. Lazorick currently serves as Co-director, Healthcare Transformation and Leadership Distinction Track, Brody School of Medicine, Admitting Hospital Privileges, Vidant Medical Center, Admitting Hospital Privileges, Vidant Beaufort Hospital, Associate Director for Community Research and Prevention, ECP Pediatric Healthy Weight Research and Treatment Center, Brody School of Medicine. She is recognized for her outstanding work in Pediatrics, specializing in Childhood Obesity. Just a few of her recognitions include being on the list of “Best Doctors in America” by Best Doctors Inc in 2013, 2014, 2017, 2018-19, 2019/20, Editorial Board for Childhood Obesity, Fellow of The Obesity Society, Editorial Board for Academic Pediatrics, 2016/17 W.C. Kellogg Foundation southeast regional winner of the Engaged Scholarship Award to East Carolina University for the MATCH program, Appointed by North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper to serve in the licensed MD seat on the state of NC Environmental Management Commission , one of six organizations from NC invited to The White House to meet with leadership of the Lets Move! Ray Bignall II, MD, FAAP, FASN is Director of Kidney Health Advocacy and Community Engagement in the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, and Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. A graduate of Howard University and Meharry Medical College, Dr. Bignall completed his general pediatrics residency, clinical fellowship in nephrology, and NIH post-doctoral research fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center.

As a physician-advocate, Dr. Bignall’s work addresses the social determinants of child health, kidney disease, and transplantation through community-based scholarship, engagement, and advocacy. He is an appointed Fellow of the American Society of Nephrology (ASN); the Inaugural Chair of the ASN’s Health Care Justice Committee; and serves as a member of the Council on Medical Legislation for the National Medical Association. Dr. Bignall is a recipient of the American Academy of Pediatrics Community Access to Child Health (CATCH) Award; a John E Lewy Fund Advocacy Scholar of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology; and was named a 40 Under 40 Leader in Minority Health.

Dr. Rasheeda Monroe attended East Carolina University and the Brody School of Medicine in Greenville, NC graduating as a member of the AOA medical honor society in 2005 and completed a pediatric residency at UNC Children’s Hospital in 2008.  After working in private practice, she joined WakeMed Health and Hospitals in 2013 where she works with medical trainees and an interdisciplinary team to address the needs of many of Raleigh’s most vulnerable children.  She currently serves as the Medical Director, Primary Care pediatrics at WakeMed; the Raleigh area Campus director to UNC School of Medicine; and the director to the Kenan Urban Scholars program at UNCSOM.  In the first half of 2021, Dr. Monroe has been led COVID19 vaccine efforts with the “Sister Circle” and her health equity team of volunteers, vaccinating over 14,000 people from vulnerable communities who have been most impacted by the COVID19 pandemic. She is married to her high school sweetheart and former ECU football player, Kevin Monroe and lives in Cary with their two football loving boys.

Dr. Morgan comes to us today from Atrium Health, Levine’s Children’s Hospital where she serves as the Medical Director, Child Protection Team, Medical Director-Pediatric Resource Center at Pat’s Place Child Advocacy Center (CAC), Medical Director- Pediatric Resource Center -Union at Tree House CAC Faculty, Children’s Services, Pediatric Resident Clinic Preceptor, and Assistant Professor Department of Peds. Dr. Morgan has over 20 years of training and detection in the field of Child Abuse and Trauma. She also serves on many Child Abuse, Diversity and Inclusion, and Hospital related committees. Just to name a few of her awards, Dr. Leslie has been recognized Community Leader Citizen Award, Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s office; Distinguished Black Woman award recipient, Black Women in Sisterhood for Action; 40 under 40 recognition of professional and business leaders by The Network Journal.
